Com Ports since last (April) update faulty

Since the last update I think April, I am having some issues with comports.
The ports appear in the Device manager,

Programs which previously worked through these ports are unable to get to the port/s

Is thee a link to the latest drivers ?
or is there another way to get to the ports.
The Update Driver option reports that the best drivers are currently installed

I don't have any devices right now which use the com ports but in the past you needed to go through the Devices and printers dialog from the Control Panel. Looking at the device's properties, normal or admin version, would give you access to those ports.

One possibility is that the update changed the com port numbers. If that is the case, you might be able to reconfigure the programs to use the new numbers.
