May different ways. My preferred method is to right click the web address and copy.
Right click the desktop and select "New" " Shortcut"
Click in the panel you see and paste your copied address
Select "Next"
Give it any name you like, that means something to you.

Done

OK. I have been playing around.

Open the website you are wanting.
Open the Edge settings
Select Apps
In the small popup, select "install as an App"
Click "install"
In the next menu, select," install as a desktop shortcut"
You can also delete the other two options, if not needed.
"Allow"

There might be a shorter way. Hang in for replies from members.

This is what I get with Firefox if I just left-click drag the padlock at the left end of the URL/Address to the Desktop, shows the Web icon and description:

Worked with Edge also.
