I have a 8.1 which I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 but no luck:( Tried the automatic upgrade twice but my laptop froze at different stages (at 7% and at 69%).
Then I tried downloading the ISO file, again the same problem,my laptop freezes.I ran the diagnostic tool and it says "Service Registration is missing or corrupt"
Please help.

Suggestion only :

Go to Elevated Command Prompt > in the flashing prompt, copy/paste this...................

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

> Enter

See if it will complete the restore successfully.
If it says restore is successful, then try the upgrade again.

I tried it and got the following prompt.

The online/cleanup-image/restorehealth option is unknown.
Refer to the help by running DISM.exe/?

You did not enter the command line correctly.
I asked you to copy/paste the command line for a reason.

The command line is........
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Copy/Pasted as suggested.Now it says:
Error:0x800f0906
The source file could not be downloaded.
Use the "Source"option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see http:/go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077

I am sorry, I cannot help you any further.
Please wait for someone else to come along.

Stay with your Win 8.1.
There are a lot of installation, activation and many performance issues reported by Win 10 users. It would be best if you wait till MS sorts things out first.
You have until July 28th 2016 to use the free upgrade offer. Lots of time.

I am not certain if the command is case sensitive, and do not wish to test it at this moment, but it should be;

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

But, the messages you have been receiving, indicate that you have not found that path, which should be to
Windows/Winsxs folder

You could, in the command window, go to that path and try the command again. Might work. But, if you have some corruption, try this, similarly in a command prompt, and then try the previous command again.

sfc /scannow

I hesitated to post this because I am not sure if it would be hard for you to follow.
However, if I don't, I am not doing what I am expected to.
So, here goes. Have a good read on this tutorial.......................
Step #6 and onwards is about what to do if you have " source " error message.

Thanks davidhk129 !!! The solution is beyond me . I think i'd rather wait for some time before something simpler comes along. One final question....Why am I not able to download the ISO file? Is it because of the same issue which is responsible for the failed upgrade?

The 2 links are interrelated. Either will do.

I cannot explain your problem.
Perhaps others will have a better grip of the situation.
Sorry.
