Hanging on system restore

My PC was working fine last night processing some astrophotography images. It had 10 minutes to go when I went to bed so I send a shutdown command to close after that.
Switching on this morning I had huge icons on one of my 2 monitors. I couldn't find any way to change it in display settings so I did a system restore back to 6 am yesterday morning. Now its been hung for half an hour on 'system restore is updati8ng the registry' and even if I shut the PC down with a long press on the power button it starts up next time at the same window.
I have a USB boot up if it comes to it.

I cant help you with your problem, except the possibility of a reinstall. . "I have a USB boot up if it comes to it."

Does that mean you can boot up and reinstall?
