I use a good password in the windows login screen, but I was wondering, how hard (or easy) is it to break past this screen.

In old versions, you could go to dos mode and then just "dir" your way around and everything was visible.

I suppose win 10 is more secure, but how much?

For the login, nix. It is there, basically, to protect the user in a multi user environment such as an Office or even to protect the user from other prying family members.

It is extremely easy to get into the user files. I would not care to discuss the various methods on an open forum, but a googler can quickly get the answers.
For you private data, the best way , in my opinion, is to keep it on an external device, which you can unplug when not being actually used.

Thanks, I suspected as much.

I currently use diskcryptor and it works great, but a secure login screen would be much simpler.
