How secure is your password with Microsoft?

Well im new here and i just stumble upon something that was making me a bit nervous when i saw it. It was where the update settings is. Windows will ask you what to restart and update and all things but it will give you a tick box to automatically log you in to windows. I just want to ask is this for a local account or can it be a online account also? if so for a local account how secure is this feature ?
