What is the point of that ?

Why mess with registry editing if it can be done with simple few clicks ?

Here in the school district ever since we deployed Windows 10 the only complaint we get is the search box takes up a third of the taskbar. Now I am deploying a reg file to a few hundred systems.

David means
Right click the taskbar - Select "Search" --- Show icon or hide.

That maybe needed for " a few hundred systems".
For home users, a few clicks will do the job without messing with registry.

True, David, but maybe it should be free choice of each individual user. Easier to send multiple instructions, as posted, as to how to alter the taskbar view. More freedom of choice. I am certain some of the users would like to see the smaller, icon, still on the taskbar.

Thanks for the info jackized! When I did a reg compare I got a ton of result but this one! Deploying now.

For everyone else that has a problem with it, move along.
