icons change after an update

I had found a program that allows you to change the file type icons and used it to select different icons for Word, Excel, as well as some other programs. I used the same icon file just selecting a different icons. When an update needs to be done, for some reason the icons for Microsoft Office are changed back to the defaults.

Is there a fix for this so I don't have to go back in and change the icons every time an update is executed?

Artoo (That was my grandfather's name, by the way. It is short for "Artudo.") you are not going to like my suggestion. I advise you to leave it alone.

MS is trying to prevent a software clash. Maybe it matters and maybe it doesn't. But messing up a good computer over icons is just not worth the risk.
