Publisher replacement

Many years ago I had MS Publisher and I could print short books of about 8 pages on 2 sheets of bond paper by folding them and printing on both sides.
I notice that not only is this feature now gone, but I cannot even buy the program. Now I must rent it.
I have looked at Scribus and the Serif products and neither seem to be able to do that either.
Is there another free program that I am missing?

I think Libre Office Writer can format pages that way. It can certainly do 1,2,4,6,8 pages on a sheet but whether it has the book capability you want I'm not so sure. You want to do 1,3 on the top half and 5,7 on the bottom half BUT then 4,2 on the top half the other side followed by 8,4 on the bottom so two cuts gets you the book. Hmmmmmm Not seen that one.

I miss being able to add a page and having the program work it out for me
The version of Publisher before office 2000 had that capability.
