Search box on top right of start menu doesn't do anything

There is a search bar on the top right of my start menu. I can type anything and press enter but nothing happens. Search by right clicking start menu works fine. What is this search box on the top right good for?

There is no Search box in top right of the Start Menu in Windows 10 whether you use it full screen or not. Are you on Windows 8.1? Is there a spyglass next to the box? If so, type something in and wait a second or two. A list of search results should appear. If nothing appears, then click on the spyglass.

If nothing works, see if you have Cortana turned off. She is just the voice interface for Search.

If you still have problems, try posting a screenshot of your Start Menu.
