I ran the windows 8.1 Compatibility today. I wanted to see what programs will and will not work in Windows 10.
There were only 4 issues for me to review. Three I am not worried about. One said that Secure Boot isn't available with my PC. I am not sure what this is and also just how important this is.
thank you for your assistance.

Secure boot is only available with a UEFI bios. This is an explanation of what it is. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824987.aspx

It's supposed to be mandatory to run Windows 10, but I believe that it's only mandatory for new, OEM PC's.
Thank you I am afraid it is all over my head. I do have quite a few programs that I have bought so I have not idea
what I will do if Microsoft will not let me use them.My PC is about 3 years or so old and came loaded with Windows 7 PRo.

It really doesn't have anything to do with your "programs" but rather which "Operating Systems" you can install.

If your computer is 3 years old and came with Windows 7 as you've said then it is probable that you've escaped UEFI as well as "Secure Boot" or else the OEM had disabled it in the BIOS settings.
Mine doesn't have it either and I'm running Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10130 without any issues regarding programs.
However, there are likely to be some programs that will need upgrading to the latest version in order to install and or run properly on Windows 10. My wife's casino games come to mind.

Thank you for your reply.
I have emailed a couple of companies that I have programs for and the answer seems to be if it works in Windows 8 then they should work in Windows 10. I would think that there might be a lot of upgrades to programs that the companies might have to
release.

That would be the logical assumption..... "should" being the operative word.
