Thanks Clifford, I noticed some outages on the server monitoring - but the site was loading for me ok. It turns out it was a DNS issue - the nameservers we have with our host were going up/down over a 90 minute period.

As we've only been using these nameservers for a few weeks, I'll stick with them - but if it happens again anytime soon then I'll be jumping to use Amazon's DNS service.
