Do you have the habit of creating a restore point regularly when the system is running fine ?
If yes, do a system restore and pick one of those dates as your restore point.

If no, you don't do that, did you create a system image backup when the system was running fine ?
If yes, use it to restore the system.

If no, you don't do any of the above, I would suggest that you start doing it.

Meanwhile see if the following will help at all......

Run a system file check to look for corrupt files. It will try to do repair if any found.
Right click at Start button > select Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.....
sfc /scannow
> press Enter.
It will take quite sometime. When finished, it will give you one of the 3 reports : (paraphrasing )
1. No integrity violation.
2. Found corrupt files and repair successfully.
3. Found corrupt files but unable to repair.
If report is #1. Your problem lies elsewhere.
IF report is #2, go see if everything is now working ok.
If report is #3, please do the following........
Right click at Start button > select Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.....
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
> press Enter.
Again, it will take some time. When finished it will give you a report.
If it says operation successful, go see if everything is now working ok.

There is a way to include the Source file in the dism command.
However, I forgot the exact command line.
I am sure someone will come along and give you the correct command line.

Sorry I am of no help to you.

On question.
Did you install your Win 10 over a Win 7 SP1 or Win 8.1 ?

If yes to one of the above, you can go back to that operating system very easily. You don't need an installation media.

If you want to do that and start fresh, let me know.

Gee.....
I wonder if this still works. No harm giving it a try.

Start button > left side, Settings > Update & Security > left side, Recovery > is there an option of Go back to Windows 8.1 ?
If yes, what if you click Get started ?

go back to Win 8.1.jpg
