SOLVED Upgrade win 7 Home to win 8.1 pro

I have purchased win 8.1 pro and I want to install it over the top of win 7 home then upgrade win 8.1 pro to win 10 pro. Do I have to do a fresh install and rebuild my entire HD or will win 8.1 pro upgrade over win 7 home without any loss of data or third party software.

You should be able to upgrade Windows 7 Home to Windows 8.1 Pro without doing anything other than running setup.exe from the media, from within Windows 7.
Then you will likely have to perform a few Windows Updates on the Windows 8.1 Pro install before you can successfully install the free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
Please backup all your critical data and create a disk image of you hard drive(s) and partitions before proceeding.
