Which Raspberry Pi software in addition to pihole?

I am running a NOOBS-installed version of Pihole on a dedicated Pi3 and have been for a long time. It works fine.
A friend is looking to get a similar set up and has already bought a Pi3, however he also wants to use it with a web browser and an old TV for streaming content (recorded TV) from his LAN.
I haven't ever tried running pihole on a full raspbian installation with desktop software, nor have I tried Openbox or other things that would lighten the load. Any recommendations?

Perhaps pi-hole works fine for one user. When I tried the same, browsing sometimes slowed down because I have five other family members accessing the 'net. Given that, I don't know if the device can handle that plus desktop use.

Also, I think pi-hole can't do cosmetic blocking, so something like Adguard or uBlock Origin is still needed.

Finally, I use the RPi as a torrent client.

I have never tried to use Pi-hole on any of my Raspberry Pi machines
