I have a Lenovo y510p laptop. I updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 when it released but there were problems. I started to get random crashes and forced restarts so I decided to do a reset on the machine and now I have an incomplete (?) Install of Windows 10. I don't have edge. I don't have Cortana. My programs work fine and the crashing stopped but I can't access any pc settings or Wi-Fi settings. Windows cannot open any database file in the immersive control panel folder in app data.

I keep getting an error message of cannot open database file.

What is going on?
Can I fix it without losing my files?
Help!!

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I think, if it was me, I would attempt something called an in-place upgrade / repair, which is basically reinstalling Windows 10 overtop of itself by running setup.exe from the installation media from within your currently installed and problematic Windows 10
Just be sure to check the little box to get updates as part of the upgrade process.
That will generally keep all your programs, data, drivers and such safe, but.....
I would still create a disk image before going forward.

Installation media can be obtained here
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench
OR here
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you already have the ISO you can simply mount it from within Windows 10 and run setup.exe from there.

Neosmart has a pretty good article on it here https://neosmart.net/wiki/windows-10-repair-installation/
You can skip the first couple paragraphs where they are promoting their recovery CDs and drill down to the meat of the article below.

Reinstall Win 10.
Since your Win 10 has been activated, then subsequent reinstall will be automatically activated.

Use this link to download Media Creation Download Tool.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Then run it. You can choose .............
1. Upgrade this PC now option which will begin installing, or,
2. Create installation media for another PC option which will download the ISO file and you can burn it to a bootable media, or you can just simply right click at the ISO file > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
Installation will begin.
Activation is automatic.

*** If you are asked to enter the product key which nobody has, just click the SKIP option and continue. ***
