Windows installed some updates today and apparently got hung. No internet access until a reboot was done. After the laptop came back up I could not logon. Kept telling me the password was incorrect, no way that was correct the password had not been changed. Was able to logon using a PIN but cannot access using the old password.

Also cannot add another account to the system

Any idea what the problem may be?

Thanks

Was able to logon using a PIN but cannot access using the old password.

So you are able to logon using a PIN.
Do a system restore. Pick 2 or 3 days ago BEFORE the last Windows Updates were installed as your restore point.

At the search box next to Start button, type system restore > at the popup box, click Create a restore point > under System Restore heading, click System Restore > wait for it to load > click the option to choose another restore point, if you don't have the option to choose another restore point, just click Next > bottom left, check the box "Show more restore points " > now choose a date when you did not have this problem, click that date > click Next > follow the prompts from then on...............

It will take quite a while.
When done, it will restart automatically back to your desktop.
It will tell you if it is successful or not.
If it is successful, find out if your password is OK now.
