annoying black wallpaper background with my photo

I like to use a slideshow of my own pictures as my wallpaper. I cannot find a way to have a photo centered and change the ugly black background. I used to be able to customise many background colours.
Also if I am able to get pictures to be small and centered after a while all the settings seem to revert to a full screen picture. Then I can barely read what I have on my start screen. It was so much more attractive with previous windows.

Wanting to avoid the many problems that themes have brought, MS limited your ability to customize your desktop. But I have a slideshow with about 300 pictures now that changes every minute, and it works fine. Perhaps you could use the folder with your pictures in Personalize, without using any other theme.
