Hi all,

I have the Ar5007EG Wlan chip on my notebook and every now and then it takes a break without even asking me. I have the original drivers which I installed over the W10 ones but that doesn't seem to matter.

I have removed and re-installed the device drivers too but don't know what drivers it is selecting?.

I have a reserve Wlan USB stick so that isn't really a biggy, does anyone else have a problem with the same chip?.

I disabled power saving (just now) for the device to see if that will help?:

I would like to point out that it does the same in Linux (Ubuntu based systems) on this notebook too!.

Please provide the device details e.g.

bugged .gif

And give us a screenshot of the drivers tab also.

Like e.g

Capture.PNG

A question though, did you try to upgrade drivers, not via those weird sites you use ;)

Maybe give this one a try (v10.0.0.329)
https://www.atheros-drivers.com/download-driver-nr-308-for-atheros-AR5007EG-and-Windows8.html
Download and extract the zip file and manually update the driver using device manager.
Point to the .inf file in the folder you extracted the driver to....

athwb.inf = 32 bit driver
athwbx.inf = 64 bit driver
Driver Install - Manual Method

  1. Download the driver and extract it to a folder.
  2. Open the Device Manager.
  3. Right click the device you wish to change the drivers for. You can select Properties > Driver > Driver Details to check you have the right device.
  4. Choose Update Driver Software.
  5. Select Browse My Computer For Driver Software.
  6. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
  7. Select Have disk...
  8. Select Browse..
  9. Navigate to the extracted folder and double click on the .inf file
  10. Hit OK, then Next and the driver(s) will then begin to install.

OR the Microsoft Update Catalog has one slightly older v10.0.0.326

What Trouble said... ;)

FYI I wanted the device ID contents from device manager not the device description.

Thanks Grizzly/Data,

I am not on my laptop at the mo and will try it out later today.

The drivers I used were for W7 btw. :D

Hi chaps,

I tried both your suggestions but Windows tells me that the best drivers (the Atheros W7 drivers package) are already installed. :D

It isn't really a major problem so I will mark this thread as solved and maybe someone else that doesn't have any drivers will use the above suggestions.:)

Thanks for your help. :D

I know you say you are slow, so I'll point out the obvious, you can uninstall and remove the current drivers and subsequently install/uninstall both Troubles and my suggestions in turn and see which one performs better and or fixes issue.

It is working okay so far, if I have any further fall-outs, I will post in this thread again. :)
