Chrome downloads but won't install

About a month ago I started getting messages from Chrome that it couldn't update itself. After attempts to do so, I uninstalled Chrome thinking to reinstall...nope. It downloads but shortly after trying to install I get this message "Installation failed to un-compress archive..." and suggested I download again. After downloading three more times with the same fail message, I have given up. I have no idea what "failed to uncompress archive" means or how to fix it. Google of course has the worst customer service on the internet so there are zero responses from them to any of my inquiries BEGGING for help.
