Connect app issues when Windows Defender is active

I've got a Samsung Android tablet and an HP laptop with Windows 10. They're both up to date.
Last year, I ran into an issue with the Connect app when Windows Defender was active. I was able to fix it by turning off the Public Network firewall.
With the firewall on, my tablet could see the laptop and tried to connect. The laptop recognized the attempt but couldn't complete the connection. Turn off the firewall, and everything worked smoothly.

Can anyone help me?
