Hi betterinblue,

The Error message you are seeing is generated when an incomplete cached copy of a failed update attempts to re-download via the Windows Store in this instance. As the cached copy is all ready corrupt even though it will succeed in continuing to download the file, the corrupt portion will constantly trigger the error.

To resolve this, simply:
  • Reboot computer
  • Sign in to Desktop
  • Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
  • Inside the SoftwareDistribution folder you will discover a subfolder named DeliveryOptimization

    Right-click
    on DeliveryOptimization and select Delete

  • Reboot computer again and you ought to be able to download from the Store again

Hi betterinblue,

Open File explorer and navigate to C:\Windows

Check that inside the Windows folder there is a subfolder named AppReadiness.

If the AppReadiness is not present right-click and select New > Folder then name it AppReadiness

If that folder is all ready present, then right-click and select New > Folder and name it AUInstallAgent

Note: the name is case sensitive!

When done adding these two folders to Windows directory, reboot computer for changes to take affect. Then once rebooted try the Store downloading / installing of app again.

Report back on whether that improves the situation.

Hi betterinblue,

That really only leaves a couple of other options that I can think of:

Option One
  • Right-click on Start and select Run
  • In the Run dialog type msconfig then click OK
  • Select the Boot tab then check the Safe boot
  • Apply and restart computer
  • Sign into Safe mode then using File Explorer navigate to C:\Windows
  • Inside the Windows directory locate and right-click on SoftwareDistribution folder and select Delete
  • Close File explorer
  • Right-click on Start and select Run
  • Type msconfig in the Run dialog then click OK
  • Select the Boot tab and remove check next to Safe boot
  • Apply and restart computer
  • See whether the Store will allow you to download and install apps now

Option Two

Other than that you'd need to consider a clean install, Reset or in-place upgrade to see whether that resolves things. Hopefully, it will not come to that, and perhaps another Forum member has other ideas to suggest.

Regedit32!

The world was great and functioning perfectly but what we loved about it was you!

Option A worked perfectly!

Thank you.
