Running windows 10 my system seems to crash after or while updates are being installed. Yesterday after getting it up again I somehow found a list of failed updates. Today I cannot find them Can anyone tell me where the list of successful or failed updates can be found? It would be much appreciated. Thank you

Thank you David. I found them. Now I can address here what is happening. I can always tell when updates are happening because my system goes blank and I have to restart. There are two updates that are troublesome.. Windows Malicious Software Removal tool, KB890830 continuously fails and is then successful. It has tried 22 times, failed 6 times and was successful 16 times including today. Does anybody know why it keeps trying after it is already successful. The other one is Definition Update for Windows Defender KB2267602 (1.205.10047.0). I am not using Windows Defender right now as I have a subscription to Norton 360 but I may elect to use it in the future. How should I proceed with these two issues.

Troubleshooting suggestion :

Run a system file check to look for corrupt files. It will try to do repair if any found.

Right click at Start button > select Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.....

sfc /scannow
> press Enter.

It will take quite sometime. When finished, it will give you one of the 3 reports : (paraphrasing )

1. No integrity violation.
2. Found corrupt files and repair successfully.
3. Found corrupt files but unable to repair.

If report is #1. Your solution lies elsewhere.
IF report is #2, go see if everything is now working ok.
If report is #3, please do the following........

Right click at Start button > select Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.....

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

> press Enter.

Again, it will take some time. When finished it will give you a report.
If it says operation successful, go see if everything is now working ok.

I am going out on a limp...............

Disable or better, Uninstall Norton > restart.
Wait a bit and then go to Windows Update ( Settings > Update & Security ) > click Check for updates.
See what happens this time.

I saw that the Malicious Software Removal Tool needed to be installed (again) so I clicked Install Now. The message came up "your device is up to date". Now I'll just have to wait and see if it tries and fails again. Thank you for a very productive learning experience. I appreciate your knowledge. Thanks
