Date: 10th September 2015. Machine working fine under windows 10 for over a month. Checked to see what Microsoft updates after doing a Microsoft Defender full scan and everything ok. It seemed from settings->check for updates that there were a number of updates that required the machine to download and restart. Decided to update immediately and did the same on a dell laptop and Linx 10 tablet all running windows 10.
All machines did update and restarted fine, except my main laptop - Toshiba Satellite S55t-A5334 did not recover after the update and is now continuously in "Restarting" loop. Tried powering up and down and trying to force it to reset into some sort of safe mode.
Does anybody know how I can get it into state that will allow me to go back to the last known working state as I'm fairly sure this is an update that is not compatible with the hardware.

IF you can't seem to provoke it into offering you any advanced options at boot then you will likely need to boot from the installation media.
on the second screen after the language screen use the Repair Your Computer link
Choose Troubleshoot -> Advance Options -> System Restore (hopefully you'll have a restore point available prior to the problem having first occurred).
If you do not have installation media........
The installation media can be obtain through either of these two resources.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench
OR
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Once you have the ISO, you can use ImgBurn to burn it to a DVD or Rufus to burn it to a USB ThumbDrive, either of which you can use to boot your computer.

Thanks for that quick response. I did finally manage to reset the machine and it reverted back to the last update by itself. I will try and redo the updates which are for outlook and word and a cumulative update for windows10.
Thanks for the two resources so if it does happen again, then I am better preapred to try a thumbdrive boot.
