How smart is it?
https://www.onthewire.io/whats-on-tv-tonight-ransomware/
Seems nothing is safe. The price of technology I guess.
I can only imagine, having spent top dollar to get the latest thing only to turn it on and find it locked solid by some pimple faced script kitty, still living in his mom's basement.
The article is unclear on the attack vector, I can only assume that it might come by way of the integrated web-browser??

I couldn't say for sure how smart it is. All I can say is it is a Samsung Smart TV. Of which we rarely use any of the features.

Can hackers look into your family or bedroom from a hacked smart TV yet. ;)

I suppose it's possible.
I remember reading something recently about one smart TV manufacturer admitting that they used the integrated microphone to listen in on conversations being conducted within range of the mic.
So I don't think it would be too big a leap to finding that the integrated camera could be used for something similar.

I was under the impression that was for speech recognition with vocal commands. Something tinfoil hat wearers was blowing way out of proportion.

I have a piece of electrical tape over my Laptop camera, and Cortana goes crazy when someone comes to the door and the dog barks. LOL

Yep.... that's me, custom made Tin Foil Hat, firmly in place, AND.....
Of course I believe all the vague, non-admittal admittals, when they get caught doing crap, they're not suppose to be doing.
I don't know why I wouldn't just take for granted that an Asian based, giant corporation always and without fail, has my best interest at heart.

Just like I don't believe Google and Microsoft and practically everybody else is using my browser habits and phone usage to target me for advertising.
It's all completely innocuous and innocent.
