Windows 10 Technical Preview 9926
1. Enable the local (hidden) administrator's account
2. Password or leave blank, doesn't seem to make a difference.
3. Log Off
4. Log On as Administrator (hidden account)
5. Tell me if your start menu works as expected?
Thanks

There is no Start menu.
Left click at Start button does nothing.
Right click still works.
So, it shuts out many vital options. Settings is inaccessible, just to name one.
Cortana box is no where to be seen.

Thank You.
That was what I was experiencing and was wondering if it was common to all installations.
Much appreciated.
Anyone else who has a different experience??

Just for the heck of it, I "created" another user account.
It took a few extra steps such as getting a security code, waiting for the system to "get ready" etc etc, but the new user account is running as expected. Nothing missing as far as I can notice.
So, the issue is confined to the built-in admin acct.

Thanks again David.... Yes it would seem so.
I did something similar... Created a new local user account, added him to the local administrator's group. Logged on and all was right with the world.
I noticed that when using the hidden admin account I can right click and choose
Search
And then type settings and get to stuff that way, however:
I cannot launch a single "Modern App", like "Music", "Weather", "Photos", etc.,
I get a message that says the app won't run using the local admin account.
So I'm thinking that maybe the whole new start menu might be restricted in the same fashion. Maybe it's a "Modern App" also.

Perhaps the built-in admin acct is the thing of the past.
MS programmers probably are too young to remember such an animal.
ha ha ha ha ha

That Cortana thing may be great for Windows Phone.
Not so much for PC.
A lot of times "she" heard me wrong. I said "folder" and she took it as "older". Maybe my accent is hard on "her" although I did enable the option that allows "speech patterns for non-native speakers of this language".

I actually went through the whole speech recognition training steps "Train computer to understand you better" or something like that and when it was done Cortana seemed to work a lot better.

I have a perplexing issue about Cortana......
Cortana is set to use my name David.
If I say " hey, Cortana ", Cortana is supposed to respond back " hey there, David ".
But sometimes, just sometimes, it responded back just " hey there."
When that happened, I would have to go to Settings > Speech > jiggle the Speed slider a bit, then Cortana would say " hey there, David ".
That has happened quite a lot. Is that a bug ?

I can't really say for sure. I haven't had a lot of time to play with Crotana on my Desktop. I hope to get back to it later and maybe I can duplicate your issue.
I will say that on my Windows Phone 8.1 it seems to work flawlessly... No that, that is of any particular significance.

THIS is what you need to get the Start Menu working again. :)

The tutorial is about reverting the expandable Start Menu of build 9926 back to the resizable Start menu of build 9879.

The topic of the thread is about " where is the Start Menu " on the Built-in Administrator Account ?

I don't see the correlation between the tutorial and the subject matter of the original post.

Has anyone went ahead and enabled the built-in admin and used the tutorial ?

Good point david....
I'm not at all sure and didn't test it when I reverted using that registry hack (ever so briefly), if that former Start Menu did work with the built in / hidden Admin account.
Maybe I'll do it again later and see.

I have found out that even in Windows 8/8.1, the built-in admin account will NOT run the modern apps although one can see the apps listed.
So, it started since Win 8, and now in 9926 it won't even show the apps, hence no Start Menu.
