How do I manually get rid of a Windows app?

I have an app which refuses to start and I cannot delete it from the Windows Start Screen (the option when I right click the icon isn't there).

Is there a way I can manually remove it so I can reload it from the App store?

I've tried going into the registry and deleting all references but some of them are locked.

Any help appreciated.

Maybe some specifics as to the exact app might help.
Someone may have had a similar issue and can share their experience.
