I keep getting messages in botton right corner "can't install updates" , when I try manually, get message "There were problems installing update..." This is an ongoing issue.
I keep getting messages in botton right corner "can't install updates" Cant do manually either.

View your update history.
Determined the KB(number) of the ones that have "failed".
Use Internet Explorer and go here http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx
enter the KB(number) into the top right search box and see if you can acquire the standalone installer and see if that will succeed.
Make sure when you are adding them to your basket for later download you get the proper one for your system architecture and remember to install the oldest one first and advancing forward from there, unless one is a cumulative update, then you can just install the latest one and it should supersede any previous cumulative updates.
