Hello

In Windows 10 explorer, how do I change the name of each file type that appears in the "Type" column?

The problem is that all Microsoft documents start with the word "Microsoft" and when you have a narrow Type colum you cant distinguish a "Microsoft Excel Document" file from a "Microsoft Word Document" file.

So I would like to change "Microsoft Excel Document" to something much shorter like "MS Excel".
And word to "MS Word"

Thanks

It's probably easier to just make the Type column header wider to accommodate the text. You do that in the same manner as you do in Excel to make columns wider. Just hover your mouse pointer over the boundary between two column headers and drag to make the column wider. Or just hover and double-click to auto-size the column width to the proper size. Is there a reason you don't want to do that instead?
