IPHONE .HEIC Photo Format

I have an IPHONE 11 and when I download the Photo's to my computer the files appear in the .HEIC format. which Windows does not recognize. Is there a conversion program that will automatically change the files to a .jpg format? I don't want to turn off the High Efficiency Format option in my IPHONE settings.

Not sure about this. I had not realised it was a problem until this thread.
Maybe specific to certain models(?) Just tried it and, st least on my gear, it seems to convert them automatically
