Log in crashing problems

I can turn on my computer and I hit enter so that I can type in my password and it just goes back to the area as if you had just turned it on. I've restarted it so many times and left it completely off for a while and it just does the same thing. How do I fix it?

Do you actually get a chance to enter your password before it recycles?

it just goes back to the area as if you had just turned it on.

Can you advise as to if the computer is actually restarting, as in do you see the manufacturer's logo or the BIOS screen or is it just going back to the lock screen?
