My Cortana doesn't work any more

All or a sudden, Cortana doesn't work. When I click on Cortana, the usual dark box appears inviting me to ask a question. But when I begin to type, the Cortana data disappears leaving the whole box white. I also notice a line of the usual Microsoft "wait" dots along the top of the box and that's it. Can anybody please help?
