first screen appears
What would that be???
Manufacturer's splash screen
BIOS being enumerated screen
Windows / Microsoft, lock / welcome screen

Any indication the anything is going on?
Lights, noise, mechanical vibrations

The first think I would try is
Remove external power source as well as the battery.
Let it set for 30 minutes or so
Replace the battery, plug it back into the wall, press the power button and see what happens.

And after that, it goes away, no noise, no vibrations nothing. Just the black screen. I then press the power button for long to power off the laptop.
