I'm not new to Win 10, however my brother is getting a new laptop computer. He uses Gmail & does not have a Hotmail or Outlook account. Will he need to create a Hotmail or Outlook account to use Win 10, or is there around not signing in using Hotmail or Outlook account?

Thanks in advance!

How do you bypass the log-in screen?
When you get to the step where it gives you the choice to sign in with your outlook account or create one, just click "skip this step". You can just create a normal user account. You do need an outlook account to download from the microsoft store though.

Why not just use another email client like Thunderbird and ignore the MS mail system altogether. That is what I do.

OR set up a shortcut straight to Gmail via a browser ( Chrome preferred for Gmail).

Because MS have a drone hovering over your shoulder each time you log IN LOL
Also I have never, ever seen Doubleclick cookies on my PC's until I upgraded to Win 10, There must be at least 30 each day I clean my machine.

Sample:. Yesterday Using Edge in my local admin account. I used Edge because I don't have my normal browser (Firefox activated in the Admin account, normally Why would Big Brother be interested in what I was doing with my Windows Old Files?

I also like to set my systems up with a Local account. But there are some things you will need a Microsoft account to use. I use my normal e-mail address which is for my POP account for the Microsoft account.

If you want to use OneDrive or Cortana and probably others you will need to be online and signed into a Microsoft account. If you run a local account you can sign onto things such as the Store on an individual basis, but these will be personal preferences. If you like the convenience of being logged on with a Microsoft account you can change from a local account to a Microsoft account sign on.

Hoping for an answer from the addressee.
But, I get so many cookies from other sources, that I don't consider the periodic cleansing too big a deal. ?

The increased facilities through a live account, for me, out way the disadvantages,
Not sure what you mean by the drone.

"is there around not signing in using Hotmail or Outlook account?"

My standard and overused question. Why do you NOT want a live account?
I can think of a few. It's extremely arrogant of Microsoft to virtually force someone to sign up for an account to use Windows. I say "virtually force" because they don't make it obvious that you don't need to. Some people don't want more of their data going to Microsoft servers. Why not have a live account? Lol. I know someone who worked for Microsoft for 15 years. He won't link his Microsoft account to Windows 10, if that tells you anything.

I am more concerned with the discretion of my internet server than with ;MS. Small fish small sea. I have nothing on my computer, or that I use, which would be important to Microsoft but could, as an outside possibility, be of some use to a local employee.of the server.

Summarizing my feelings about recent MS events.
In nutshell, Microsoft has become nothing more than a multi Billion Dollar 2 Bit outfit.
It's all about controlling the market and users habits. I agree with BigFeet's analogy "virtually force"
I see it as a MS campaign surrounded by so much secrecy. It reminds me of the movie War of the Worlds, in comparison, MS are the intelligent extraterrestrials who are on a campaign and planning to occupy or minds, leisure time and removing the Fun out of Fun. I can't wait to see what feature they will take away from us next month with release of the final version, and what updates will include.
It certainly wouldn't surprise me if they disallow our access to our entry point for typing MS‑DOS commands for performing tasks by bypassing MS graphical interface. Then we'll be forced to call the MS Help line. For a fee for service. Enough said, now I'm angry.

A fitting quote from "The Champ"

"I know where I'm going
and I know the truth,
and I don't have to be what
you want me to be.
I'm free to be what I want".

I know where I'm going
IF that were actually only true....
When it comes to technology, I have no idea and I don't suspect that anyone else really does either.
It's a ride (car, train, roller coaster, pick your analogy) from point A to point B, only when you start nearing point B, point B actually moves further away and the ride continues.
You can embrace it, sit back, put your feet up and enjoy it or you can get off and walk back to point A.

Know where I'm going? Haven't a clue, but.....
I do "live in interesting times" :)

et tū, Brute?
What is the world coming to.

I played with that a couple years back and liked it. Even paid $10 bucks or whatever it was for the version they were hyping at the time. Not bad overall.
I think I still prefer Linux Mint "MATE" for my rare excursions off the reservation.

Yes. Totally bored with Windows 10. I am looking for new toys to play with.
