The Notification icon, attached, shows up on the extreme right on the app bar. Whenever an email comes in, it dings and shows the email topic and at times, an ad. How do I get rid of this?

Click the start button, then the Settings cog, select System and in the left column select Notifications & actions.
Scroll as needed and turn off Notifications you do not want to see.
