Shutting down problem

My problem is that when i try to power on my laptop it just shows me the screen with the loading circle and the words "shutting down" right under. I thought it could resolve by itself so i left it but it continued to do the same thing for hours. Always the same screen. I also tried the day after but there was no difference. I really don't know what the problem may be because the last time i shut down my laptop everything seemed ok ( however it took a little longer than usual).
If you know how to resolve the problem please let me know. Thank you

Check your power button settings. Control Panel > Power Options > "Choose what the power buttons do"
