sony camcorder dcr-trv18e not compatible with windows 10

hi since upgradding to windows 10 from windows 7 , camcorder not recognised . i have used a firewire cable and a new genuine sony usb cable but nothing happens when i try to download video clips to pc not even message saying device not recognised by pc .also camcorder does not show in device manager . sony helpline say lots of older devices are not compatible with windows 10 .do i have to buy a new one . any help please peter
