SOLVED Stop chrome screen appearing

Every time I switch on, before I can do anything else, I have to click a cross on a chrome screen to make it disappear

Do you mean "Chrome" as in the Chrome browser is opening at startup?
Right click the taskbar and choose task manager.
Select the startup tab
Right click Chrome and choose disable.
