Transfer photos from SD reader to computer.

I've been on Win 10 since mid-2016.
Until very recently I could very easily transfer photos from an SD card to the computer. On plugging in the reader a screen would come up asking what I wanted to do. I would then nominate a folder and zip, it was done.
Now, for some reason it's all changed and I'm no longer able to do the transfer.
Any help would be very welcome.

Is the reader even recognized anymore?? Even without a card in it, it should appear as a drive in Windows Explorer.
Have you tried a different USB port?? You may have a defective reader...
