Can't figure out how to get rid of the News/Weather app that now appears on my taskbar. Probably got added from a recent Windows 10 update; it is distracting and unnecessary. Web searches say to right-click on the app and select "unpin", but that doesn't bring up a menu containing an option to unpin. I would appreciate clear guidance on how to get rid of this annoying feature.

This can be either removed completely or the taskbar entry can be removed:
Right click on the taskbar & untick news & interests, this will remove the entry from the taskbar/notification area. I’ve only done this once so I’m not 100% sure on the icon’s name.
