Windows 10 has a first screen which appears to advertise travel. The picture changes about twice in my day. Question: do you think I could select one picture and have it REMAIN. One picture I liked was Poland but was not able to keep on screen.

I do not like the changes. Because this is all to advertise travel we probably have to accept it. Am I right?

Hi Monique_960,

Welcome to the Forum.

When you initially boot Windows 10, you are taken to a Lock Screen, which you click to access the Logon page.

This Lock Screen can feature one picture only, a slideshow of pictures, or a new picture each day.

The settings for this are located in your Settings window. You get there by doing the following:
  • Right-click on Start ( the Windows flag in bottom left corner ) and select Settings > Personalization
  • In the left pane select Lock screen
  • Now in the main window click the drop arrow in the field beneath Background

The ads you are referring to are actually what Microsoft call Fun facts, tips, tricks, and more.

You get no choice if you have selected Spotlight to prevent this, as these images which change daily come directly from Microsoft. However, if you see a specific image you dislike, you can click the Notification bubble then click Not a fan on the Lock screen. That will prevent that image being shown to you again, or any like it.

If you select Picture or Slideshow though, you can disable the fun facts, tips, tricks, and more by toggling to Off below the choice you made for your Picture (or Pictures is you chose Slideshow).

You can see if you chose Picture, then 5 images are displayed to choose from, or if none of those please you you can click the Browse button and select another one you have.

Now you mentioned you liked a picture from Poland.

If that is the case, you can quite likely download that for free from Microsoft. To do that go to the following website: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18827/places-landscapes-wallpaper

If you press Ctrl key + F key together when on the above website, you can type Poland to quickly locate the 4 images from Poland currently available.

If one of those images is the one you liked, click the Get it now hyperlinked text below the preferred picture.

That will open the image to a larger format for you to preview whether you love it that size or not. If you do then right-click and choose Save as then select where you want to save it to. Then back on the Settings window click that Browse button highlighted in sample image above and locate your downloaded picture and select and click Choose Picture.

If the image was not there, then that list on left side of website shows images for other themes, some of which include images from Poland too.

Regards,
