I am running the 64 bit released version of Win 10.

I start the email app and try to connect to my google account.

I enter gmail address & password.
"Connecting Service" screen comes up with my picture.
I click "accept"

I then get an error message.

"Something went wrong.
We are sorry, but we weren't able to do that

error code: 0x80070425"

I am nervous they aren't going to link Google at all with their new "app" based OS...

Are you adding the gmail account to the email app? Mine works just fine.

I found and fixed the problem.
There was a Windows Service that needed to be running. But, it had not started.
I set it to automatic in the task manager and then started it.
The service was: VaultSvc aka Credentials Manager.

I had no luck with that credentials manager service, but this is what worked for me, on both my Dell laptop and my Surface 3:

In Windows Firewall (or, on my other system, in AVG), access the list of permitted applications, then add the following app to the list: C:/windows/system32/svchost.exe. This will then allow mail with google and iCloud to sync with the stock Windows 10 mail app.

Thanks Richard, I followed your advice and it worked perfectly.
