SOLVED Windows 10 won't shut down?

Since updating to windows 10 from windows 8 my HP laptop will not shut down when using the power button from the start menu. I have 2 options to otherwise shut down which is to leave laptop on all night, this discharges the battery to empty which shuts it down otherwise to hold down the main power button, this causes an error saying computer shut down incorrectly which may damage the computer.
Is there an update to resolve this problem?

What does it look like in your device manager? Are there in yellow question marks showing? Are there any driver updates for your particular HP model laptop? To find that you need to go to HP's download/support website for your make/model laptop.

I found widows 10 update changed power settings. I have now reset power settings so now all ok.
