My husband's computer is still trying to install the anniversary update. Unsuccessful at least 4 times.
The update downloads but after several minutes of updating a message appears saying 'reverting back to the original settings'.
Any help appreciated. (My computer downloaded and updated the anniversary update with no problems so I cannot help him).
Thank you, Susan J.

It's possible that he has a bad download.
Check for a file in the root of C:\ (C:\$Windows.~BT)
IF present you should probably delete it, which may be a bit more complicated than one might think.
First of all it is a "hidden" file and you will need to show hidden files to actually see it
HiddenFilesFolders.JPG

THEN you may need to "Take Ownership"
This https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/win...ership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/ should help with that.
Finally, you may need to explicitly add your User Account Name with "Full Control" to the folder and sub-folders and files in order to get rid of the $Windows.~BT folder

THEN go here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sof...459594)(TnL5HPStwNw-WaTVja5C7z2Vs7q82apCPg)()
Use the "Update Now" button on the problem computer to download a new copy of the files needed to perform the upgrade.

Thank you to Noob Whisperer for all this information. I will give the information to my husband.
Thank you also to Don Singler for his suggestion.
I hope we get it sorted soon before the next 'big'update.
Best wishes, Susan J.
