Can't fix Disk error

When I try a windows image backup I get an I/O error and it stops.
When I try an image backup with Acronis True Image I again get the error along with a sector number.
Chkdsk and the seagate utilities don't find a problem.

Has anybody run into something like this before? I don't know how to proceed.

When you perform "chkdsk" do you add the /R switch?
As in
chkdsk C: /R

When you perform you Acronis backup have you tried going into advanced setting under error handling and tick the box that says "ignore bad sectors"?

How much free space is available on the drive?

I did use chkdsk C: /R.
Acronis asked if it could ignore the error and backup was able to continue. No such possibility with windows image backup.
There's ~ 1T available on the disk.

OK.... you've got two backup utilities indicating a problem on the disk.
You've got two disk analysis utilities indicating nothing wrong with the disk.

Is the computer suffering any other symptoms that might lead you to believe that their is a physical fault of general data corruption on the disk?

Can you boot to the Acronis rescue media and perform a complete image of the entire disk (all partitions) in the "off-line" environment?
