Can't View Pictures: Object Invoked Has Disconnected

I can not open any of my picture files in Photos or Photo Gallery. I keep getting the following message:
"The object invoked has disconnected from its clients".
I have no idea what I did, or didn't do, to make this problem appear. Any ideas for me?

Hi Barbara,

are your files stored locally or on a network/cloud?. Have you run any updates recently?. Have you run any cleaning apps like CCleaner and ticked the boxes for network passwords?.
