computer thinks headphones in front jack but there isnt... tried everything.

I switched from 8.1 to 10 this morning and am annoyed at finding that the speakers on my monitor don't work and my headphones I have wont work either in the standard jack. every once in a while it will say I plugged something in and the second the realtek comes in it says byeeeeeeee!!! and never works. ive tried everything... so... many... forums... and I'm afraid I may never be able to listen to my music until its either fixed or updated or whatever it needs. anything would be appreciated to help me get sound from my computer.

Latest would appear to be R2.79 2015/6/25 and seem to include Windows 10
Might be worth a try.
