My husband's computer starts beeping, the light on the tower starts blinking, and the monitor screen shows a broken pattern. It only happens once in a while, and the only way he can shut it down it with the power button. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Thanks.

Hopefully it is not an overheating situation, but do you remember the beep pattern?

Sounds like a problem with the graphics card or graphics chip on the motherboard if it does not have a separate video card. It could be as simple as an over heating problem or the card/chip itself is failing.

Something is definitely wrong with some piece of hardware. As mentioned above, it sounds like the graphics card may be overheating or failing. If you're getting a beep code, most motherboard manuals will give reason. If it's an off the shelf PC, you may need to visit the manufactures website and go to the support page.
