Does Windows Defender for Windows 10 Home edition provide real time protection against USB flash drives containing malware

I am using Windows 10 Home and Microsoft Defender in the default configuration.
How can I check (in the settings e.g.) is Defender is providing protection against USB flash drives.
When I put a unknown USB flash drive into my PC and the flash drive is containing harmfull software will Defender block it?
I need some official information but could not find any on the Microsoft's webpage.
Can someone help on this issue?

Yes, just went through that with a couple of files on a 64GB USB Thumb drive. Warning popped up right after plugging it in then accessing it, prompted me to Review and deal with the issues.
