How do I use the mouse to change from open program to open program?

You should see the icons appear on the taskbar, when you open an additional program. Clicking them will ope, or focus, on the one you want.

 

[Trouble]

On a single monitor environment (laptop) with a lot of programs (windows) open, I like to use the task view button on the taskbar to pop back and forth between running programs.
The Windows Logo Key + Tab, will do pretty much the same thing.

My wife likes it. I find often the ONLY thing that will work is alt-tab
